Introduction

This course aims to provide an overview of how to build a healthy supervisory practice within your team as well as training in specific skills that will improve your own supervisions.

Session One will focus on the key ingredients of a healthy staff culture in which supervisory relationships provide a critical piece.

Session Two, goes into practical detail about the structure and skills of effective supervisory conversations.

Session Three, explores what happens when relationships break down and key tools to increase the likelihood of a healthy organisational culture.  

The companion to these three video sessions is the Course Booklet which you can download. It contains all the review  questions we’ll be asking you and it includes summaries of all the key tools and concepts we’ll be exploring together.

Session 1 - Core Principles For A Healthy Supervisory Culture

In this session we’ll turn our attention to the structure and content of supervisory conversations and the importance of building rapport and understanding with those you line manage.

So we’ll answer these three questions:

How do structure supervision conversations?
What questions would be beneficial to explore with my supervisee? 
How can I better understand my supervisee and their approach to their work? 
How can I be confident that I am developing my supervisee and our conversations are moving them forward?

Session 2 - The Structure of a Supervision Conversation

What we want to explore in this final session is the eco-system or greenhouse, that your organisation's supervisory relationships sit within. 

So over the course of this final session we’ll be answering the following questions:

How do I improve the whole team’s operational performance?
How do I decrease the likelihood of relationships breaking down on the team? 
What tools will help me when I’m struggling with my supervisee?
If I want to go deeper into this material where can I go?

In many ways it has never been more challenging to supervise others in a Christian ministry environment. Many of us who have positions of line management responsibility have never been taught best practice on how to structure these relationships, the questions we should be asking and how to we hold the balance between productive goal setting and pastoral care. This course applies Gospel Coaching principles to help supervision relationships thrive in whatever context they are in. This course offers a tool box of practical skills and techniques to support the principles of a Gospel Shaped supervision of relationships, leading to confidence in this vital leadership role.
